In these sometimes dark and dreary days of Winter, it's important to give ourselves a break from the grind. The Holidays are over and at least for me, some hard work lies ahead before I go to the Covention in the Spring.
A few years ago I started a purely fun project, a life sized jointed mannequin that I don't intend to sell. Now, for me that is saying something! I just wanted a big doll to dress up and maybe model some vintage clothing in my shop occasionally. Even my playthings sometimes have to earn their keep.
Of course I got busy, ran out of time and money to indulge my whim, and Macy was put aside with one arm still to be built and only one leg attached. Also, human hair is expensive, so she had to wear a hat...
She sat in the corner of the spare bedroom until I decided I could spare her some time during the after Christmas rush when I had a few days just to play.
Also, an idea had been perking about taking her to a small Doll Show In NJ in Feb. Last year my friends and I took some dolls and were thrilled to bring home some first place ribbons. So she has been "resurrected", and I steal a half hour or so a day to work on her.
My ongoing problem with the scarcity of flesh colored felt has been solved, thanks to an Etsy seller, and I'm happily anticipating the delivery that will allow me to finish Macy's arm. Our big obstacle will be her hair, since my faithful Etsy hair dealer is not only "On Vacation" but moving, which in my experience could take months.
SO... will Macy go to New Jersey with a stylish hat? Will I finish her arm in time? Will the mailman ever arrive?
Stay tuned for the continuing story of "Macy Goes to the Doll Show... Or does she???"
